Ghost 15 initial cold backup and restore results
Dec 29th, 2009 at 5:51pm

I used Ghost 15 to do a cold backup and verify on an almost full hard disk.

Did a cold restore (does not ask for the serial number a second time) to a new hard larger drive.  All default options.

Restore worked, however disk was not bootable.  I had to do a vista command prompt environment bootrec /fixmbr
to boot the restored image.

Not sure why Ghost still does this sometimes in Vista, but all was well after that.

Haven't had the....well, time or patience to uninstall 14 and install 15.  I might just use it in cold mode for a while.

However I REALLY like the ability to do a cold backup.  I will point out that the first backup did error out after turning off the LCD.  I have NO idea if it was related.  However upon leaving the LCD on and re-running the backup, it completed and verified.

Still would be interested in uninstall of 14 and install of 15 on Vista 64 experiences of other users.

I've used Ghost 15 in Win7 (32 bit) and WinXP. No problems at all with image/restore, even with the Win7 System Reserved Partition. Using Copy Drive with Win7 is another story.

I'm not a cold imaging man but I've used it to confirm that it works.

Alex,

From memory there was no difference between cold or hot imaging times. I only did one cold image (backup/restore).
