recovering files from a different Ghost installation

Hello all,
I browsed through the forum, but did not see any posts that seemed to fit my particular problem. I have 2 machines, Vista 64 SP2 on one and XP HE SP3 on the other. My vista machine has 2 drives in it, the 2nd drive being for backup. I have Norton Ghost 14 installed on both machines, and the XP machine has been backing up to the Vista backup drive over the network. Well, the XP machine won't boot suddenly, but the Ghost on the Vista machine only sees it's own backup files. Is there a way I can restore files from the XP backups using the Vista?
I guess the simpler question is, what do I need to do to get my files back (not looking for the system restore option right now, just the Files and Folders)
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions

On your Vista machine, in the Ghost interface--choose Tools > Run Recovery Point Browser. Navigate (i.e. browse) to where you have been storing your WinXP backup files and open the one of your choice:
Ghost 14 User Guide, page 121--Opening Files within a Recovery Point

In addition to NightOwl's suggestion you could Mount a .v2i from the WinXP computer as a virtual drive and access its files.

I assume you are looking for the images (recovery points) in Vista Ghost. Forget that and go directly to the folder where the WinXP .v2i files are stored. Mount the latest by right clicking, choose Mount, accept the drive letter.
Oh, I hope your backups are .v2i and not Files and Folder backups.

well, the good news is I was able to get the XP to boot again ... thanks to this link --->
http://www.answersthatwork.com/
I downloaded the ISO for XP emergency boot disc and was able to login ... woot
I have .v2i backups, but was hoping to be able to get files from the Files and Folders backup, that's a pipe dream yes?
@Nightowl ... my Ghost 14 Tools tab only has 4 options
Manage Backup Destination
Copy Recovery Point
Convert to Virtual Disk (I think this is what you were suggesting)
Copy My Hard Drive
I saw the many posts regarding full drive restore ... but I was looking to just get into Files and Folders backups
Thank you both for your interest and advice

Will your XP computer boot without the assistance of that CD?

Indeed it will. Strange behaviour to be certain, but I am just glad I now have a redundant backup of the files I was worried about.

Good to hear you're back in business!

I personally do not use Ghost 14--I was going by the details in the User Guide as linked above--and I have seen many references to using the *Recovery Point Browser*--I can't give you an explanation as to why you are unable to find it based on the User Guide's outline--but Symantec is noted for poorly worded User Guides
.
But, follow Brian's advice--he has used the newer Ghost programs and he knows what he's talking about--unlike myself!!!
