i bought another sata hd and did an xp sp3 clean install.

f6 recognized the floppy after changing boot order, but none of the approx iostor.sys exe files would bring up correct choice on screen ( needed approx ich9.xx ), so i gave up and changed sata setting in bios to compatibility mode and it installed ok last pm and this am.

have 4 bangs. otherwise great.

will report back.

It has the most recent OSD Tool Script on the menu screen. This tool offers.. Remove installed drivers Install drivers Set CPU type Change HAL Services Control You can install IDE or SATA drivers in seconds.

It sounds complicated but it is really only six or so keystrokes.

Boot from the Image for Linux CD, choose the OSD Tool Script, choose Install drivers. SATA. Browse to the drivers you have on a USB flash drive, choose iaahci.inf and one second later it is done.

I played around with an IDE computer and chose to remove all installed drivers (with the tool). Not surprisingly WinXP would no longer boot. Back in the OSD Tool Script it offered to restore a registry backup. Done. I then chose Install default IDE drivers. That's it, WinXP boots again.

Some details. The tool is included with IFL and the standalone TBOSDT Pro. There is a free TBOSDT but it doesn't include the tool.

Sounds interesting, Brian. I haven't looked at IFL, but I'll have to explore it when I get a chance. I have a registered copy of IFW, and if I understand correctly, that also entitles me to TBOSDT Pro.

Does "default" mean "generic"? Or does that mean the driver Windows will use "by default", as long as you provide the driver?

IOW, do you obtain the driver and use TBOSDT to embed it in the Windows installation? Or does TBOSDT reconfigure Windows to use a generic AHCI driver so you can at least boot, and then you can subsequently update with a more appropriate driver from within Windows?

(I had never thought about the possibility of there being a generic AHCI driver, but I guess there could be.)

I mentioned the IFL CD as the tool is built in as an extra. You can also make a standalone TBOSDT CD/floppy/USB flash drive. It will contain the same tool. To start the tool from IFL you simply press Enter, but to start the tool from TBOSDT boot media you have to type..

tbosdt
runtbs osdtool.tbs

So I'm just being lazy in using the IFL CD.

Dan, as you have a license for IFW you are also licensed for IFL, IFD and TBOSDT Pro.

That is poorly worded. After selecting "Install Drivers" the two options are..

Install a specific driver
Install default IDE drivers

You have to provide the AHCI driver via the first choice. The IDE drivers are already present in the Windows installation but the correct driver for the new motherboard (restoring to new hardware) may not yet be installed.

Ah, okay.

Nonetheless, still sounds easier than some of the other "move-IDE-to-SATA" solutions.

Dan, an update on the OSDTool. If you run it with a Win7 OS instead of WinXP, you get different choices when you select "Install Drivers". You see...

Install a specific driver
Install default IDE and AHCI drivers
Install default IDE drivers
Install default AHCI drivers

So for Win7 there are default AHCI drivers.

follow up.

Lenovo laptop working well with Xp pro sp3.

It allows backup with ghost 2003 no problem with internal cd-dvd. I have ndis2 dos driver for the nic and will modify a floppy to back up over the network using ghost 2003.
