thanks for the help.
I don't have win 7 install disks, so i can't do repair install.
I have win 7 pro upgrade disks from lenovo and used them to install win 7 pro onto a 2 1/2 inch sata.
that drive works well in lenovo laptop SL510, and also in acer veriton m420 desktop, booting into win 7 fine.
ghost 11.5 showed 3 primary partitions
f: system
g:windows7_OS
h:lenovo recovery
ghosting seemed to go ok, local in acer desktop using the 2 1/2 inch 70 gig sata as source and 2 1/2 inch 500 gig sata as destination, but no boot in lenovo laptop or acer desktop.
i think ghost 2003 showed same or similar, i can't remember.
I gave up and ghosted xp pro to the 500 gig drive.
that was before i asked for advice here.
i may try again saturday at work.
best regards,
alan

Alan,
You can make your own Win7 recovery disc.

No. The recovery disks are only 170 MB.

A Microsoft annoyance. Should be no problem.

I Ghosted my windows 7 Starcraft 2 hard drive using ghost 2003(old school ghost) onto Double Layer DVD's (took 4) and then tested it by doing a restore onto another hard drive then did a complex BCDEdit using BootIt and some helpful instructions from terrabyte unlimited and the new disk works. Upshot - It is possible to back up Windows 7 with Ghost 2003

Thanks. I haven't seen a report of a Win7 image/restore using several DVDs with Ghost 2003.
