I am buying a new desktop pc with larger hard drive a new OS. Am I doing a migration? Do I clone or just copy files and programs.
I am new to this and it may be over my head.

I don't suggest cloning since the new computer has a new OS. Just copy the files over that you need. A USB stick is probably easiest.

Only user data files can be copied. Programs have to be installed on the new system.
