imaging/restoring problem with ghost 2002
Apr 15th, 2002 at 10:15pm

I have windows xp with ntfs partitions C,D,E and plextor 24/10/40 cdrw, ghost 2002
I tried to create a image of my c drive using pc-dos disk - well it stopped writing the cd after 2 -3 mins.(the system just hangs).tried diferent make cds, different speed -no luck.
Later I tried with a ms-dos disk and rewritable disks-made a successful dump. But when i went to restore that , i couldn't see my cd rom drive listed so that , i can restore the image.
Again i used another floppy made from ghost v 7.5 ,think it is a pc-dos disk, I got the option of my cd rom drives .
Well what on earth is happening? Where is that I am going wrong? Is it my 1. OS?(I never had any problem ,when I used win98SE)
2.My cd writer?
3.the disks I use?
4.the boot disks I use?
Can someone help me please? Cry Cry Cry Cry

it sounds like u got it figured out now, no?

shouldn't be ur OS cuz ur working from DOS, right? Ghost just sees *files*, no OS.

i don't write my images to cd, so i won't be much help to u .. but i can see that it looks like there are two diff boot floppies .. one for reading & another for writing:

u know this, right?

i assume ur buner is found on symantec's 'approved' list?

u have the latest firmware for ur writer .. no reader? if so firmware?

i don't think u used w98 with ntfs file system.

most ghost users who prefer ntfs keep one fat32 partition dedicated solely for ghost images. i think this would save u the grief ur experiencing.

havent ever tried burning the image into a cd.
i simply partitioned my HDD into 2, one partition will reside my ghost image.
however, last time i did ghost, i tried disk to disk copy (cloning if you may).
when i hit the 'go' button (or whatever it is), progress bar wont progress at all. time elapsed stopped after 5 seconds and ghost will say it fail.

still finding a solution to my problem. exactly the same pc. winxp both licenced copy.

BTW, i am newbie here. nice site. keep it up.
