Connect PC to stereo amplifier
Jul 27th, 2002 at 11:56am

I recently was sent a link to a company called Xitel.  http://www.xitel.com ; They sell a gadget that connects your PC via its USB port to the line in or aux jacks on your amp.  They claim it provides superior sound compared to connecting via the earphone or audio out jacks on the sound card.  It comes with an adaptor and 30 feet of "studio grade" cable.  Anybody seen this or know anything about it?  I will soon be playing  mp3s thru my stereo one way or another and I would like to hear your ideas on how best to do that.

I can only say what I did .. which is prolly far more than you want/need.

I got the CardDeluxe sound card from Digital Audio Labs:

The baby-of-the-line Mackie mixer:

and studio monitors from Event:

Add a mic & mic stand, some software, and you have yourself a Digital Audio Workstation that would've cost 10 times that much only a few years ago.

I've had this set-up for about 3 years now, and couldn't be happier. Seems that digital audio technology does not obsolete itself nearly as quickly as other digital components, such as CPUs and hard drives.
