GHOST DRIVE MAPPING GHOST BOOT DISK CONTINUED

Okay, I am still having real problems with this.
Just to recap I am trying to create a drive mapping ghost boot floppy disk, not a network ghost boot disk (ie a separate utility in ghost)- I imagine however the process is still the same, and then with that drive mapping ghost boot floppy I am emulating it in Easy CD Creator to make a bootable cd.
From your previous notes from 'how to Create a Ghost 8.0 Network Boot CD I have done the following:
1. Created a mouse.ini and copied to the floppy
2. Copied the mscdex.exe and the oakcdrom.sys
3. Added the following to the config.sys at the top of the file so my config.sys looks like this
DEVICE=OAKCDROM.SYS /D:mscd001
DEVICE=\net\protman.dos /I:\net
DEVICE=\net\dis_pkt.dos
DEVICE=\net\b57.dos
LASTDRIVE=Z
DEVICEHIGH=A:\HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /i:A:\NET
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\B57.dos
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\NTSTS.DOS
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\DLSHELP.SYS
LASTDRIVE = Z
Edited my autoexec.bat so it now looks like this
@echo off
SET TZ=GHO+08:00
mscdex /L:D /d:mscd001
MOUSE.COM
\net\netbind.com
@ECHO OFF
SET TZ=GHO+00:00
SET PATH=A:\NET\;a:\;%PATH%;
SET TEMP=A:\
SET TCPHELP=A:\NET
SET ETCDIR=A:\NET
REM \MOUSE.COM
A:\NET\NET START
A:\NET\NET.EXE USE Z: \\BNYLN-APPS02\GHOST
A:\NET\NET.EXE USE
Z:
GHOST.EXE
Just as an aside I have also amended my protocol.ini so it has b57$ for my driver name in the last line of the file.
After I have done all of that I then emulated the floppy with Easy CD Creator.
But I am still having problems???? Are you able to enlighten me. It is now coming back with an incomplete binding on the protocol side. But it is the correct NDIS driver.

Did you say you were able to successfully boot using the floppy boot disk?
Are you then using that successful boot floppy as the source for the creation of the bootable CD?
When booting the CD, press F8 after the initial *Post* of the system and when it just first accesses the CD to begin the boot process--select *step-by-step* confirmation for each command line of the boot files in *config.sys* and *autoexec.bat*--you will then be able to determine the exact line that does not execute--and be able to record the exact wording of the error message.
Report that info back here!

Okay, the floppy works absolutely fine with the drive mapping and I have followed the instructions you gave me to the book.
As soon as I add the CD side this is when it has problems.
So just to recap on what I have added.
1. mscdex
2. oakrom.sys
3. mouse.ini
I have added this information to my config.sys now
DEVICE=OAKCDROM.SYS /D:mscd001
DEVICE=a:\net\protman.dos /I:A\net
DEVICE=A:\net\E100B.DOS
DEVICEHIGH=A:\HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /i:A:\NET
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\e100b.dos
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\NTSTS.DOS
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\DLSHELP.SYS
LASTDRIVE = Z
and my config.sys looks like this
@echo off
SET TZ=GHO+08:00
mscdex /L:D /d:mscd001
MOUSE.COM
\net\netbind.com
@ECHO OFF
SET TZ=GHO+00:00
SET PATH=A:\NET\;a:\;%PATH%;
SET TEMP=A:\
SET TCPHELP=A:\NET
SET ETCDIR=A:\NET
REM \MOUSE.COM
A:\NET\NET START
A:\NET\NET.EXE USE Z: \\BNYLN-APPS02\GHOST
A:\NET\NET.EXE USE
Z:
GHOST.EXE
As I said before I have added the $ sign in my protocol.ini, and my floppy boots up fine into ghost.
I can now tell you where the problem is via the F8 command you have given me.
When it gets to
DEVCE=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /I:A\NET (Y/N) and I click Y it comes back with PR0003E:PROTOCOL.INI FILE OPEN FAILURE
On the next line
DEVICE=A:\NET\E1000B.DOS (Y/N) AND I CLICK Y, IT SAIDS FAILURE DRIVE DID NOT LOAD NDIS ENVIRONMENT INVALID
HIGH MEMORY LOADS FINE
THEN
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /I:A:\NET (Y/N) Y
IT SAIDS THE SAME ERROR ABOVE AGAIN WITH REGARDS TO THE PROTOCOL.INI.
Then it saids
failure: Driver did not load, ndis environment invalid
and then no protocol manager is installed
So I think it is something to do with the protman.dos file that it is having problems and therefore not allowing the protocol.ini to load properly and my network card driver, which would explain why initially when I first logged this I was getting waiting for DHCP maybe????
I hope this now helps, if you need any other information do let me know.
Thanks for all your help and I must say how impress I am wtih this website

Wish I could claim greater expertise in *networking*--but I can help with general troubleshooting techniques...
I would go back to the floppy disk and use the F8 technique again and see if any messages occur when the line that fails from the bootable CD executes from the floppy--I'm guessing that probably not--but worth a look.
Then look at the *time/date* stamp of *PROTOCOL.INI* file--does it change with each boot?
In your other thread regarding this issue, I referenced this resource:
How to Create a Ghost 8.0 Network Boot CD
I noticed that your command line to load *Protocol.ini* is this:
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /i:A:\NET
But the command line in the reference for the same line is:
DEVICE=\net\protman.dos /I:\net
There is no *A:* in the reference source example for the switch
*/I:\net
*--I don't think the first A:\ is a problem at the beginning of the line! Does this change the behavior of your boot CD if you remove that *A:* from the switch?
Report back with your results.

Also noted that you have *duplicate* command lines in *config.sys*--that can be a problem at times:

DEVICE=OAKCDROM.SYS /D:mscd001
DEVICE=a:\net\protman.dos /I:A\net
DEVICE=A:\net\E100B.DOS

DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /i:A:\NET
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\e100b.dos
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\NTSTS.DOS
DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\DLSHELP.SYS
LASTDRIVE = Z

Trying to look at this now, but not long before I leave for the day, so may post tomorrow morning with the outcome.
Thanks once again

Okay there seems to be some progress now without the errors as before. It gets to the point where it saids waiting for DHCP server.... and then saids the requester service is not started. Is it ok to start it (y/n). When I click yes it saids 'dos error sys0006 occurred trying to load a:\net\net.exe
I think we're nearly there, but not quite.... and by the way I am booting this from the floppy every time right now. I want to get to the point where there are no errors before I go on to Easy CD and make a bootable disk.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Your last reply has confused me:
Quote:

by the way I am booting this from the floppy every time right now.
But you previously stated in reply # 2 above:
Quote:
Okay, the floppy works absolutely fine with the drive mapping
So, what has changed from the *floppy works absolutely fine* to *'dos error sys0006 occurred trying to load a:\net\net.exe*--I'm not following the sequence of events!
Any chance you need to change the order of the command lines so certain programs are executed before the others?

What I have done is broken down the 2 things I want to do, ie 1. make a bootable floppy drive mapping - which works and I know it works because I have tested and it boots fine up into ghost and I can see the mapped drive to my images.
2. Then I want to take those drive mapping files that I know work from the floppy and put them onto a bootable CD
Does that now explain it?
I look forward to hearing from you.

it is when I add the CD files ie, the mscdex etc, etc that it does not work and comes back with that error
Have a good weekend.
