How to restore - Ghost 10.0

My friend's HDD dies.
We DO have a Ghost image on an External drive.
He removed the old drive and put in a brand new one.
The Norton Recovery Console doesn't see the new drive.
Does the new (empty) drive need to be prepared for use in some way? (It is a Seagate SATA 160 GB).
He is running the Seagate Utility, but it's Wizard froze.
Is something wrong or are we missing a preparation step?
Thank you.

cardinal23,
It doesn't need to be partitioned or formatted. You can do this if that is your preference.
Have a look in the BIOS. Is the HD showing? Is the SATA port turned ON.

I would have thought the same thing, Brian.
However, the drive was not seen.
Seagate comes with a CD. We ran the wizard on that CD. Then the drive was recognized - and our data was recovered. Whoopee!
btw: What is the MBT (Master Boot Table?) option. It was unchecked by default. We left it unchecked.

In Windows you have to "Initialize" a brand new HD before it can be partitioned. This just means writing a MBR. But the HD is "seen" prior to the initializing. I think I've always been able to see HDs without a MBR from the Ghost RE and restore an image.
Whenever you restore an image to a different HD (not the HD from where the image was created) you should tick "Restore MBR". You didn't and in most cases it doesn't matter as Ghost will write a generic MBR.

Right, it doesn't matter if it's just an ordinary bootable partition.
It would matter if you had a special MBR, such as boot managers, Disk Manager, EZ-Bios, encrypted file systems, Go-Back, or the special MBRs some manufacturers are starting to use to enable their on-disk restore or HPA access.

I know this is covered elsewhere, but do you know what the latest information is on Restoring a Ghost Image to a different computer? Thanks. This was a thread that I actually started long ago, called STOLEN COMPUTER. There were pages of posts. Do you recall what the latest wisdom on the important capability is? Thank you.

Nothing much has changed. This is an addition that looks interesting.

My understanding of the University Imaging Utility is that it costs $1,007 minimum (50 licenses x 20.14 = $1007) which is a too expensive for me.
