One of the first things Ghost has to do is evaluate all of the attached drives.
If it can't properly read a drive type, it will hang.
That is exactly what happened with Ghost 2003, build 754 and the new AMD 939 and AM2 type motherboards.  Ghost 2003, build was required to overcome this problem.

You just said Ghost, and you didn't tell us all about your system and what version of Ghost (what build) you're using.
To get the proper answers, you must tell us EVERYTHING you can about what you're doing and how you're doing it and on what system you're doing it on.  The answer is in the details.

What version of Ghost are you using and what is the build number?
Run this from the dos prompt on your Ghost boot disk, to get the build number:
Ghost.exe /ver
