Not all optical drives are *equal*!  Apparently their command set varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

When you check Ghost's version number in DOS by typing *ghost.exe -ver*, you will get the version, build #, and a *cdlib=xxxxx*.  The last is the CD-Library of various commands that work with a given optical drive.  Symantec tests and updates that library over time--but not all optical drives are tested and made compatible.

Norton Ghost 2003 compatibility with CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD drives.  There's probably a similar FAQ for Ghost 8.x and 11.x .

You could submit a request for testing your optical drive model to Symantec--but who knows if they will!
