New YaBB Template » O_opacity

Hi.

I installed a new template today. It's called O_opacity. You can read about it here:

http://www.boardmod.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1224151547/0

You can test this template by selecting it from your control panel: User CP » Profile » Options » Scroll down to where it says "Which Template would you like to use?" and from the drop-down menu, select "O_opacity".

If nobody has any major gripes, I think I'm gonna migrate over to that.

Altho we tweaked the current (blk_gry3d) to our liking (which takes a ile), the blk_gry3d template was designed for a much oldeer version of YaBB, causing me to implement some work-arounds. whereas O_opacity is designed from/for the latest version of YaBB (2.3x).

User of IE6 and older browsers may have trouble. (Christer, you still IE6'in it?)

OH NO!!!!!

Garish! Gaudy! VERY Difficult to look at for more than a few seconds, for these old eyes.
I'm currently using the white pages with light and dark blue borders, with black lettering.
It's restful and very easy on OLD eyes.

The old yellow on Black screen that I saw when I first came to this forum practically drove me bonkers, till I learned how to change it.
Give me "SOFT" any ol' time.
Many forums like 'Lockergnome' also use the SOFT color scheme.
Other forums like "Devil's Reaper" are so hard and garish that I can't spend any time there at all, before getting eye strain and a headache.

I'm sure O_opacity would appeal to the children..... Wink Roll Eyes Grin Grin Grin
It's COOL!

Opacity is *interesting*.  I have a fairly new Dell pc with Vista and on the Windows side bar I have a cpu-meter object.

Whenever I scroll with Opacity, both cpu's go up to 40-50% cpu utilization while I am just moving the scroll bar.  I assume that's to portray and keep up with the background image.

My conclusion:  It's nice if you like that sort of stuff, but you better have a fast cpu if you have Vista Aero interface enabled.

you will still be able to select the white background and stare at your 100-watt lightbulb. settings would only affect those who have the dark-background template. i use dark cuz it's easier on eyes.

john,
i am going to try to disable screen overlay graphic. the cpu usage is killing me.

After trying the Opacity for awhile, I changed to blk_gry3d_medium which is very nice for wide screen or 1680X1050 resolution which I am using.  I don't think the medium choice was there last time I checked which was months ago.  It's a nice compromise.

I tried the default (white background) options this morning, but after several years of the darker/original look, I personally find that darker backgrounds are easier to read.

But of course that's why there is a choice!  Thanks.

Surprisingly, while using Linux (Ubuntu), I found that dark background sites looks ugly (especially Radified). There are ways to improve, but default is quite yucky. On my laptop (using WXP), dark-background sites are easy on the eyes .. whereas white-background sites seem like I'm trying to read text off a 100-watt lightbulb. Ouch.
