Drive Copy Help with Ghost
Jun 28th, 2009 at 2:19pm

Hello, I have a windows vista installation on a 30gb ide hard drive, I want to copy the drive to an external 500gb usb drive so that i can boot from usb using that, i can see the drive copy option in ghost, however the 500gb drive has music and files on it that i dont want to erase, if i choose to copy my 30gb disk to the 500gb usb disk will it erase all files on that disk, or will they remain on there? if they will be erased, can anyone suggest a way to copy the files across in a manner that will allow the usb drive to boot vista.

Do you have a reference to booting Vista from a USB HD? I gather it can be done but it is a very complex procedure. The following is for WinXP. Do you want to do something like this?

As far as copying your Vista partition to the external HD without losing your music. Yes, it can be done but you will need to create other partitions on the HD before using Ghost.

Does this change your mind?
