Radified--Indulge Your Technolust
Seems that those who may know do not support the lifeguard's spreading of the *urban myth* *old wive's tale* treatment for jellyfish stings!
ALL STINGS CONSIDERED - EXCERPT ONE OF THREE
Urine is useless against pain from jellyfish sting
Jellyfish Stings
Maybe the 'uric acid' in urine is supposed to act like the 'acetic acid' found in vinegar to de-activate any un-fired stinging cells (nematocyst) still present.
But this quote from 'All Stings Considered....' above suggests that is not the best association to make:
Quote:Alcohol and human urine are common nematocyst remedies, but both can be harmful. An Australian study reports that both alcohol and
urine caused massive discharge of box jellyfish nematocysts
.
I have enough problems with 'other' social interactions, then to try to deal with the issues involved in asking someone to *
piss* (oh, right--the politically correct term) 'urinate' on me
!
Rad--go back to the beach and educate that lifeguard--his training is woefully inadequate!
